Boarding Officer

You will dive into current processes to identify what’s working, pinpoint what needs improvement and create data-driven solutions that set new standards for productivity and effectiveness across Focal.
You will report to the Operations Manager and work alongside our operations, sales and finance teams. You will support shipping operations by ensuring compliance, accuracy of documentation and meeting customer requirements. Your responsibilities will include overseeing supplier evaluations, inspections and record-keeping and handling shipping issues, damages and lost freight claims, while ensuring safety and monitoring customer-supplied property. Additionally, you will be responsible for ensuring cargo, tank cleaning and stability compliance, while working to resolve issues quickly and maintain smooth operations.
- Prepare and follow up on daily operational documentation
- Coordinate vessel husbandry matters, port operations, shipyard calls and Strait transits as needed
- Communicate effectively with vessels, port authorities, and clients
- Prepare and finalise proforma and final disbursement accounts

- Monitor shipping protocols and documentation to meet requirements
- Review customer requirements and customer correspondence
- Investigate and resolve shipping quality issues, damages or lost freight claims
- Maintain safety standards and procedures
- Conduct supplier evaluations according to standard procedures
- Inspect purchased products and services
- Safeguard records related to inspections
- Control and monitor customer-supplied property
- Meet cargo requirements, tank cleaning and stability standards
- Address customer satisfaction by resolving complaints promptly and performing work according to procedures
- Strong understanding of shipping operations, documentation handling and compliance requirements
- Experience with supplier evaluations, quality inspections and record-keeping
- Strong problem-solving skills to manage shipping issues including damages and lost freight claims
- Knowledge of safety standards, cargo requirements and tank cleaning procedures
- Ability to monitor and manage customer-supplied property effectively
- Excellent communication skills to address customer concerns and ensure satisfaction
- Strong attention to detail and ability to apply operational procedures efficiently
- Strong time management skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- A keen eye for detail and a proactive attitude to keep operations on track
- Strong communication skills for liaising with various stakeholders
- Analytical, organised and self-motivated
- Excellent teamwork and problem-solving abilities
- A team-oriented approach to supporting various departments and operations
- Willingness to learn and grow within the shipping industry
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook
- 2–3 years of relevant experience in a similar position
- Valid Ship Agency Personal Identification Card
- Valid Driver’s License
- B2+ level proficiency in spoken and written English
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree (preferably a graduate)
- Military service completed or exempt (for male candidates)
- Strong English skills (reading, writing and speaking)
